Software came before the first Xiaomi phone

Xiaomi's timeline places MIUI in 2010 and the Mi 1 phone in 2011. Redmi followed in 2013, and international expansion began in 2014. This history helps explain why its model work sits beside an operating system and connected-device platform.

Lei Jun previously worked at Kingsoft and founded Joyo.com, which Amazon acquired in 2004. Co-founder Lin Bin brought engineering experience from Google and Microsoft. The current leadership page separates Lei's CEO role from Lu Weibing's role as president.

Public shares coexist with founder voting control

The 2025 annual report describes a weighted voting structure: Class A shares carry ten votes and Class B shares one vote, except for reserved matters. It names Lei Jun and Lin Bin as the beneficiaries. Voting control and the economic shareholding are therefore different measures.

MiMo connects research with a device business

Xiaomi launched HyperOS in 2023 and its first electric sedan, the SU7, in 2024. Its company timeline records the first MiMo foundation-model release in 2025. These are separate parts of the same broader device strategy.

Xiaomi's first-quarter 2026 business review records the V2.5 public beta on 23 April and its MIT weight release on 28 April. The release included a text model, a multimodal model and speech models. MiMo was available through both a hosted platform and downloadable weights.
