Who founded Anthropic?

Anthropic began with seven co-founders in January 2021. Their work spans model training, research, infrastructure and policy. The current leadership page identifies Tom Brown as Chief Compute Officer, Jared Kaplan as Chief Science Officer, Sam McCandlish as Chief Architect, and Chris Olah as Interpretability Research Lead. Jack Clark leads the Anthropic Institute. These distinct roles show how the founding team divides technical and public-benefit work.

Who leads Anthropic today?

Dario Amodei directs the research strategy and company vision. Daniela Amodei manages the executive team and work across research, engineering, products and commercial operations. She also chairs the board. Their leadership roles differ even though both helped found the company.

How its public benefit structure works

Anthropic is a commercial public benefit corporation. Its stated purpose concerns the responsible development of advanced AI. Its directors must balance shareholder interests, people affected by the business and that public purpose. The company also established the Long-Term Benefit Trust in 2023. The trust has special rights to elect and remove directors; this governance role is different from an ordinary investment stake.

How Claude became a product

Anthropic introduced Claude on 14 March 2023 after a closed trial with partners that included Notion, Quora and DuckDuckGo. The launch offered Claude and the lighter Claude Instant through a chat interface and a developer API. The original product already covered writing, summarization, search, coding and questions. Its current named model families came later.

A dated view of its company records

Anthropic filed an amended S-1 registration statement on 2 November 2026. The document identifies its legal entity, executive offices and proposed share structure. A filed prospectus describes a proposed offering; it does not establish that the offering has closed. This profile uses that dated filing for company details.

Which models does Anthropic provide?

Anthropic develops the Claude model family. Its current documentation distinguishes Fable, Opus, Sonnet and Haiku releases. It lists access through the Claude API and partner platforms, including Amazon Bedrock, Google Cloud and Microsoft Foundry. The model guides below describe individual releases and their access conditions.

Current releases and earlier API versions

The model list covers the current Claude families, active earlier releases and the deprecated Sonnet 4.5 and Mythos Preview. Fable and Mythos have separate access records even where Anthropic identifies the same underlying model. Retired Claude releases are not yet fully covered here.
