Midjourney Edit Model
The Edit Model changes an existing image, combines references into a new image, and fills or expands selected areas. It launched separately from the V8.2 image model.
What the release provides
Midjourney opened the model to community testing on 27 August 2026. It supports up to four reference images, personalization, moodboards, and style references. The product exposes it in the prompt bar, image actions, and Editor.Midjourney Edit Model release
How to use it well
Practical guidance. Describe the change and the parts that must remain stable. For local corrections, select the smallest useful region and check its edges against the unchanged image.
Reference order and compatibility matter
The current guide supports V8.1 and V8.2. The first reference sets the proposed aspect ratio unless you specify another. Tile generation and Remix of Edit Model results are not supported.Edit Model guide
Selected-area edits preserve the surrounding pixels
A September 2026 update made targeted inpainting and outpainting change only selected pixels. This supports repeated corrections without regenerating the whole image.September 2026 Edit Model updates
