Granite 8B Code Instruct 128K
Granite 8B Code Instruct 128K is a July 2024 code-specialist release. It is fine-tuned from the matching long-context base model and remains downloadable.
Release details
Training combines the original instruction data with synthetic repository-level long-context examples. Short-context data covers code commits, mathematics, SQL, function calls and multi-turn code tasks. This earlier release is distinct from the current Granite 4.2 reasoning family.Granite 8B Code Instruct 128K model card
Practical use
Practical guidance. The 8B model provides an earlier code-specific reference for long-file and repository tasks. Review generated changes against the requested behavior, not only whether the output parses. Measure whether extra context improves the edit or causes the model to change unrelated code.
