DeepL Write models
DeepL Write uses DeepL's proprietary language model technology to improve text within a language. It can correct errors or rewrite phrasing. Write Pro is the user-facing service, while the Write API exposes the editing functions to software.
Correction and rephrasing
The correct endpoint targets spelling and grammar with minimal wording changes. The rephrase endpoint can also change sentence construction, style and tone. Both return an array of improved texts in the same order as the inputs. They are two editing operations within the Write family, rather than separately named public models.DeepL text correction API reference
Write keeps input and output within one language. It can convert between variants such as American and British English. A single request does not both translate a text into another language and improve its writing.DeepL Write API quickstart
Language and style coverage
The current quickstart lists German, English, Spanish, French, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Simplified Chinese. Regional output variants are available for English and Portuguese. The languages endpoint reports the current Write feature set, so a language name alone does not establish support for every editing control.DeepL Write API quickstart
The API offers simple, business, academic and casual writing styles. Tone settings include enthusiastic, friendly, confident and diplomatic. Style and tone controls cover a subset of Write languages. A strict value returns an error for an unsupported language; a prefer_ value permits default handling instead.DeepL writing style and tone controls
Product and API access
Write Pro is offered through web, desktop and mobile interfaces, extensions and workplace integrations. It provides corrections, alternative wording and tone or style controls. The interface and the API are access routes to the writing family, rather than independent model releases.DeepL Write Pro overview
DeepL's current plan guide lists API Growth and Enterprise API for new paid customers. Older API Pro accounts remain documented, but that plan is no longer sold. The older API Free plan does not include Write. A Write Pro add-on for Translator does not grant API access.DeepL current and legacy API plansDeepL product and API subscription distinctions
Practical assessment
Practical guidance. Choose the correction mode when the author has already approved the wording and only error fixes are needed. Choose rephrasing when sentence clarity or audience fit can change. In either case, compare the result with the source before replacing text. Check product names, commitments and qualifications that must keep their exact meaning.DeepL text correction API reference
Practical guidance. For a multilingual editing tool, present only the style controls supported for the selected language. Make the selected editing mode visible to the user. A grammar pass and a diplomatic rewrite can produce different changes, even when both start from the same sentence.DeepL writing style and tone controls
